City Sewers Future Construction

Central Area Cement Sewer Renewal Program
Unit 6

The Department of Public Works will begin replacing sewers in the vicinity of Western Avenue and 65th Street in early 2008. Inspections show that portions of these sewers are in poor condition. Crews will work on sewers in 64th Street, 65th Street and 65th Place between Western Avenue and Denker Avenue.

The sewers in this project area have been inspected using remote-operated cameras. Engineers will make further inspections once trenches are dug and the pipes are exposed. Completion of this project will help protect the local community’s health and safety, and contribute to a more efficient sewer system. This project is being paid for by the sewer service charges (included in water bills) that have been collected over the past several years.

QUICK FACTS
  • Approximately 3,900 feet of eight-inch diameter cement pipelines will be removed and replaced.
  • Contractors will dig trenches to the sewer depth.
  • No streets will be blocked off, but there will be traffic controls along 64th and 65th Streets and 65th Place that may narrow traffic lanes.
  • No driveways will be blocked off.
  • Street parking will be temporarily restricted in some areas.
  • Project duration: 8 to 12 months in total, beginning early 2008. Construction will move along in sections so no area will be impacted for the full project duration.
  • Work Hours -  7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 64th and 65th streets, and 65th Place;  9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at  Western Avenue intersections.
  • Work Days - Monday through Friday; Saturday work is possible but not expected.
