City Sewers Current Construction
North Broadway Sewer Rehabilitation Project
This project involves lining existing sewer pipes in Chinatown on and near North Broadway to make the sewers more reliable for decades to come. The first section, between Bernard Street and College Street, was completed in November 2008. During February 2009 the project will continue along Cesar Chavez Avenue between North Broadway and New High Street.
QUICK FACTS
- Construction period: At the end of February 2009 for up to ten consecutive business days. No work will take place on weekends.
- Work hours: Up to 24 hours on some days to expedite project completion.
- Project cost: $1.3 million.
- Project length: 1,346 feet
- Construction method: Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner method. Trucks, compression and other equipment will be used during construction. There will be compression noise and debris removal from the maintenance holes. A temporary, above ground sewer bypass will be installed at the project area to continue wastewater services during construction.
- Traffic and parking controls will be enforced.
- Temporary “no parking” signs may be posted in areas where construction is taking place. Traffic lanes will be reduced. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes.
- Safe and adequate pedestrian and vehicle access will be maintained at all times to businesses, bus stops, fire hydrants, and residences.
- Trash pickup, deliveries, access to businesses and residential driveways and alleys will be maintained.
