City Sewers Completed Construction
Humboldt Street Sewer Project
The Humboldt Street Sewer Project was built to keep sewage moving safely and reliably through the wastewater collection system. The project has three main components:
A diversion structure (where sewage can be directed to another sewer) was built at the intersection of Avenue 18 and Humboldt Street. Most of the diversion structure work took place in a pit that was dug in the intersection.
A junction structure (the place where two or more sewers join) was built under Humboldt Street near San Fernando Road, connecting to the North East Interceptor Sewer. Another pit was dug in Humboldt Street for this work.
A 725-foot long sewer connected the new diversion and junction structures under Humboldt Street. Microtunneling was used to minimize work in the streets. Most of the sewer construction took place from the two pits mentioned earlier.
